FC Mobile 27 Game Plans Guide

How to set up, switch, and use the five Mentalities mid-match

Game Plans are one of the biggest tactical upgrades in EA SPORTS FC Mobile 27. You can now change formation and mentality during a match instead of locking one setup from kick-off.

Official source: EA SPORTS FC Mobile – Game Plans Deep Dive (September 22, 2026).

Quick facts

  • A Game Plan = one formation + one mentality
  • Five mentalities: Ultra Attacking, Attacking, Balanced, Defensive, Ultra Defensive
  • Create up to 4 Game Plans per lineup
  • Switch mid-match from the top-right dropdown
  • Works in Division Rivals H2H and certain PvE matches
  • Does not work in VSA or Manager Mode

1. What Are Game Plans?

A Game Plan is a saved tactical package you can activate live. EA’s example: if you need a goal, switch to Ultra Attacking + 4-3-3 Attack so the defensive line steps up and more players join the attack.

There is no official “best” combination. Build plans for the scoreline you are actually in: chasing, protecting, or controlling.

EA’s intro mentions up to five Game Plans per squad. The setup steps say you can create up to 4 Game Plans per lineup. In-game, treat four slots per lineup as the working number.

2. How to Set Them Up

Go to My Team > Club

Tap Game Plans in the left menu (this replaced the old Formations button)

Tap the + under an empty slot

Choose a Mentality and a Formation
Press confirm

Important: Game Plans are saved per lineup. If you switch squads and never built plans on that lineup, you can start the match with none.

Suggested 4-slot setup

Slot Mentality Example formation When to use
1 Balanced Your main shape Default
2 Attacking 4-3-3 Attack Need a goal, still want structure
3 Ultra Attacking 4-2-4 or 4-3-3 Attack Last 10 minutes, must score
4 Defensive or Ultra Defensive 4-1-4-1 or a 5-back Protecting a lead

3. How to Switch Mid-Match

  1. Select your squad and start the match
  2. Tap the dropdown in the top right
  3. Select the Game Plan you want
  4. Play simple passes for a few seconds while players run into the new shape

The new mentality is selected immediately, but the team still needs time to move. EA says these switches are for key moments: a goal, a red card, or the closing stages. Do not spam them every attack.

4. How to Choose Mentality

  • Need a goal: Attacking or Ultra Attacking
  • Game is open: Balanced
  • Protect a lead: Defensive or Ultra Defensive

Mentality is the slider. Formation, player position, and Work Rate still decide who actually makes the run.

5. What Changes on the Pitch

This is the section with EA’s four official comparison clips.

Team commitment and risk

Attacking plans send more players forward and create extra passing options. Lose the ball and the space behind you is huge. Defensive plans keep shape, but give fewer outlets after a turnover.

Clip 1: Game Plan Trade-Offs comparison

Pressing

Attacking plans hunt the ball higher. Defensive plans hold position instead of chasing.

Clip 2: Pressing comparison

Defensive baseline

Attacking plans raise the back line and squeeze the team into the opponent’s half. Defensive plans sit deeper, closer to goal.

Clip 3: Defensive Line comparison

Attacking runs

More players join the attack as you slide toward Ultra Attacking. Work Rate still decides who goes.

Clip 4: Attacking Runs comparison

Team width

Attacking plans spread wider. Defensive plans stay narrower and more compact around the box.

6. The Five Mentalities

Ultra Attacking

  • Best for: a late, must-score push
  • On the pitch: highest line, widest shape, most runners, strongest press
  • Strength: most forward options and the best chance to win the ball high
  • Risk: huge gaps behind, more counters, more offsides, faster stamina drain

Attacking

  • Best for: building pressure without going all-in
  • On the pitch: higher line, more width, more forward runs
  • Strength: quicker build-up and clearer forward passes
  • Risk: space opens behind you if you lose the ball

Balanced

  • Best for: most of the match
  • On the pitch: middle ground on line height, width, and runs
  • Strength: stable possession and midfield control
  • Risk: less punch than Attacking, less protection than Defending

Defensive

  • Best for: protecting a lead or slowing a team that is dominating
  • On the pitch: deeper, compact, fewer runners, cautious build-up
  • Strength: stronger shape through the middle
  • Risk: fewer forward options; counters are harder to start

Ultra Defensive

  • Best for: surviving an all-out siege
  • On the pitch: deepest, most compact block, almost nobody joins attacks
  • Strength: maximum protection around the box
  • Risk: isolated forwards, dry attacks, extra long shots, crosses, and corners

Formation, player position, and Work Rate still decide the final look. Mentality is the instruction. Your squad still has to carry it out.

7. Simple In-Game Script & Deep dive Dev Talk

  • 0–60 minutes, level or +1: Balanced
  • You concede first: Attacking. Still losing after 75? Ultra Attacking
  • You score first and they start throwing numbers forward: Defensive
  • Last 5 minutes, +1, they are camped in your box: Ultra Defensive
  • Last 5 minutes, -1: Ultra Attacking. Accept the counter risk

One change after a goal and one change around 75–80 minutes is usually enough.
